Day 7 – Defizz Day

Today we made our way to Wales, where we’ll be based for the next week. We had decided that this was to be a defizz day, plus a chance to catch our breath, and tackle the ever growing list of admin tasks that have been chasing us since Cornwall. Between editing photos, writing up notes, replying to messages, and organising the week ahead, the day quickly filled up. We’re so grateful for all the people who have reached out with ideas, invitations, and encouragement, and we wanted to make sure we’d properly caught up with everyone.
We also used the time to reflect on what an incredible first week it’s been. Since leaving Cornwall, we’ve been shown nothing but kindness and generosity from every dive centre we’ve visited and every diver we’ve met both in person and online. The support from the diving community has been amazing.

Looking back, it’s been quite a week. On Monday, we were at Wraysbury, where Yvonne from the dive team kindly spent the day with us. Over a coffee and a few laughs, she shared some of her most memorable diving stories including ice diving at Wraysbury a number of years ago, which sounded absolutely fascinating (and exceptionally cold!). Yvonne’s story can be read here , and if you’d like to see what our day at Wraysbury looked like, you can check out our short film here.

Then on Tuesday, at Vobster Quay,
we had an amazing day diving with Midge and Vicky from Scuba Blue. Between dives, we chatted about their experiences of UK diving and their thoughts on the lingering stigma some divers still have about quarry sites. Their passion for changing that perception really shone through and it’s easy to see why. You can read more about our conversation with Scuba Blue here.
By the end of the day, we felt caught up, recharged, and ready to get back in the water. It’s been a productive pause, but we’re both itching to climb back into our drysuits tomorrow this time for something new: our first shore dive of The Great Scuba Drive!
